Prof. Dr. Dr. Johannes Ring

Professor Johannes Ring was Director of the Skin and Allergy Clinic at the Biederstein at the Technical University of Munich from 1995 to 2014, after five years as Head of the University Dermatology and Allergy Department in Hamburg.

Prof Dr Dr Ring began his professional career as an immunologist in transplantation research (Institute for Surgical Research Prof Walter Brendel, LMU Munich), where he habilitated in 1976 on the subject of “Anaphylactoid reactions”. This was followed by a research stay in the USA in the field of allergology, before he turned his full attention to dermatology with further training at the LMU as a student of Prof Otto Braun-Falco.

His clinical and scientific focus is on inflammatory and infectious skin diseases, neurodermatitis, anaphylaxis (allergic shock), drug intolerance, food allergies, new therapeutic methods, in particular immunotherapy and tolerance, the influence of genetics and the environment on allergies, itching research and new methods of allergy diagnostics in the blood.

Prof Dr Dr Ring’s scientific work comprises over 600 original papers and 400 reviews. He has edited or been the sole author of numerous books, most recently “Neurodermitis – atopisches Ekzem” (Thieme, Stuttgart 2012). His short textbook “Angewandte Allergologie” (Urban & Vogel, Munich) has influenced generations of young doctors in three German editions and one English edition.
