Without hormones, nothing in our body works. These protein-like messengers are small communication experts that control the entire metabolism and all organ functions. They mobilize the immune system, promote the development of muscles, bones, and tissues, define us as women or men, regulate our desire and overall well-being. Even a minimal deficiency or a tiny excess of a single hormone can significantly throw this sensitive system off balance. In addition to serious illnesses, imbalances of these messengers can also lead to beauty-related issues such as dry, flaky skin, blemishes, wrinkles, cellulite, or hair loss.
One thing is clear: hormones are not like vitamin pills that you order from dubious sources online and take “just in case.” They absolutely belong in the hands of an experienced doctor. That’s why we work closely with our endocrinologically specialized colleagues at the Hormone Center at the Opera, which has its own hormone laboratory. Through a blood test and/or saliva test, we first determine whether and which hormones in your body are out of balance. Only those will then be replaced — in the exact same amounts that your body would normally produce. Depending on the hormone, different methods of administration are ideal: patches, ointments, lotions, gels, injections, or tablets.
