Effective treatment for damaged skin including sun-damaged skin
TCA stands for trichloroacetic acid and provides for a light or medium exfoliation of the skin depending on the degree of effectiveness. A TCA peel is much more intense than a fruit acid treatment or microdermabrasion. It removes small wrinkles and age spots, to leave the skin looking softer, brighter and more youthful. It takes the skin longer to recover from a TCA peel compared to fruit acid peels. A TCA peel is generally used for the face, but it is also suitable for the neck, cleavage, arms, back and hands.
You can immediately resume your normal activities after a simple TCA peel. Your face may appear slightly reddish, but excess skin will flake away easily after three days. Sun protection factor cream is required for the first three weeks after treatment.
The recovery period after a medium TCA peel is around 14 days. After treatment, a bleaching cream should be used for dark skin types for two to three months to avoid hyper pigmentation (darkening of the skin). An antiseptic ointment should be used to prevent bacterial infections. It is extremely important that sufficient sun protection cream is applied – at least SPF 50 – for several weeks after treatment.
Stronger peels using TCA are performed by our dermatologists at HAUT- UND LASERZENTRUM AN DER OPER.
We recommend four sessions with an interval of four to six weeks to achieve a more radiant and healthier complexion. TCA peels should only be carried out in fall or winter as they are highly intense.
